Naar Parijs

To Paris

Nadat ik mijn kamer opgeruimd, mijn reiskoffer ingepakt had ging ik voor het laatst ontbijten. Na het ontbijt bedankte ik de receptionist, het personeel was vriendelijk geweest. Het is weliswaar geen tophotel maar het was ruim voldoende voor me geweest. Daarna ging ik tanken bij de plaatselijke hypermarché (soort supermarkt maar zeer uitgebreid). Daar zijn de prijzen iets lager dan bij de gewone tankstations. En ik ging de tolweg richting Parijs op. 

After I tided my hotel room and packed up my suitcase, I have been breakfasted for last time. After the breakfast I thanked the receptionist and the crew was been friendly for me. It was no top hotel but it was very sufficient for me. Then I go to tank my car at the local hypermarché (bigger than normal supermarket). There are prices little bit lower than usual gasoline stations. And I was going the turnpike to Paris.

De tolweg richting Parijs was erg lang en saai maar vrij goedkoop, het kostte me €8,30. De tolweg eindige ruim voor de voorsteden (banlieues) van Parijs. Daarna was het vrij druk maar het laatste stuk was erg specultair om te rijden. Vanaf de super-périphérique parisien (A86, de tweede ringweg rond Parijs) kwam ik in het ondergronds knooppunt terecht die via La Défense naar de Porte Maillot bij de Boulevard Périphérique (ringweg rond het centrum van Parijs) voerde. Daarna begon de brede tunnel onder La Défense, 4 km lang. Na het tunnel reed je de brug over de Seine op, in de verte zag je Arc de Triomphe. Dan dook je weer de tunnel op gevolgd door 5 stoplichten tot de Porte Maillot.

The turnpike to Paris was very long and boring but it was cheap, it has costed me €8,30. The turnpike ended before the suburbs (banlieues) of Paris. Then it was busy but the last stage was very speculatively to drive. From the super-périphérique parisien (A86, the second ring around Paris) I came truly in the underground interchange which by La Défense with direction runs to Porte Maillot at the Boulevard Périphérique (ring around the centre of Paris). Then begins the wide tunnel under La Défense, 2 1/2 miles long. After this tunnel you drove up the bridge on Seine, you see the Arc de Triomphe in the far distance. Then you dived in the another tunnel again, followed 5 traffic lights before Porte Maillot.

Bij de Porte Maillot, een knooppunt met Boulevard Périphérique moest ik kiezen tussen Périphérique Interior of Périphérique Exterior. Dat wil zeggen: Interior is de binnenste ringweg die met de klok mee draait. Als je daarin terecht komt heb je milieusticker voor nodig want je bevindt net binnen de stadsgrens van Parijs. Exterior is de buitenste ringweg die tegen de klok draait. Je hebt geen milieusticker voor nodig want je bevindt je net buiten de stadsgrens van Parijs. Als je daar eenmaal in die ringweg bevindt moet je absoluut voorrang geven aan het invoegend verkeer als ze rechts of links van je komen. De maxinium snelheidslimiet is 70 km/u. Het beste is op 2e rijbaan te rijden, je wordt nauwelijks gehinderd door de motoren die tussen de auto's doorrijden of salommen. Ik kan zeker een boek vol schrijven: Driving the Boulevard Périphérique for Dummies.

At the Porte Maillot, an interchange with Boulevard Périphérique I must choose between Périphérique Interior or Périphérique Exterior. That means the word Interior inner ring road which turns clockwise. As you enter this road, you must need an environment sticker because you are within the city limit of Paris. Exterior means outside ring road which turns counter clockwise. As you enter this road, you do not need an environment sticker because you are outside the city limits of Paris. As you once entered this ring road you must absolutely give way to the entered traffic who comes from right or left. The speed limit is 40 MPH. You can drive the best on second lane, you are being disturbed barely by the bikers which driving or zigzagging between the cars. Bij het hotel aangekomen.

Ik reed tot de afslag bij Porte d'Italie. De kruising was zo chaotisch dat ik per ongeluk de verkeerde straat afsloeg. Dus ik moest om de blok heen te rijden, dat was niet zo makkelijk omdat het druk was. Gelukkig vond ik de ingang van de parkeergarage van de hotel. De hotel lag in een voorstad net buiten het centrum van Parijs, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, een van de weinige veilige banlieus. Mijn hotelkamer aldaar was erg ruim en luxer dan in Amiens. Het prijsverschil was maar 18€. Toen werd het tijd voor een lunch in het hotel. Wat me verbaasde dat er geen broodmaaltijd te krijgen was maar gewoon warm eten uit het buffet. Ik nam noodgedwongen vegetarische maaltijd, rataouille met gebakken aardappels en salade. Gelukkig zat er geen rat in de rataouille, haha. Na het lunch lekker biertje drinken op de terras in een mooie tuin achter de hotel.

I drove to the junction at Porte d'Italie. The crossing was very chaotic so that I turn to the wrong street. So I must drive round the block but it was not easy because it's busy. Lucky I found the entrance of the underground parking of the hotel. This hotel lies in the suburb just outside the centre of Paris, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, one of few safe banlieus. My hotel room there was bigger and more luxurious than in Amiens. The difference price was only 18€. It was time for lunch at the hotel. What wonders me that no loaf meal served there but warm meal from the buffet. I was forced to take vegetarian meal, rataouille with baked potatoes and salad. Lucky is no rat in the rataouille haha. After the lunch I was drinking yummy beer on the terrace in a beautiful hotel garden.

Met de metro naar 14e arrondissement

With the subway to the 14th arrondissement

Het was maar 10 minuten lopen tot de metrostation en ik kocht 10-ritten kaarten in een boekje bij de automaat voor 14,90€. Daarna daalde ik naar het perron. Het enige dat je allereerst moet weten dat je de kleur, nummer van de metrolijn en het eindstation moet vinden met stations en overstapstations daar tussen in. Ik wilde naar Montparnesse-Bienvenue toe gaan. Bij de juiste perron aangekomen hoefde ik maar 5 minuten te wachten. De metro reed naar Place d'Italie waar ik moest overstappen naar de andere metrolijn.

It was only 10 minutes walk to the subway station and I bought 10 ride tickets in a booklet at the vending machine for 14,90€. Then I was dropping to the platform. The important thing is that you must know the color, subway line number and the end station with between stations and switch stations in. I wanted to go to Montparnesse-Bienvenue. Arrived at the right platform it took only 5 minutes to wait untill the subway train. I rode to Place d'Italie who I must to switch to the other subway line.

At the 14th arrondissement.

Aangekomen in die arrondissement (adminstratieve zone van de gemeente Parijs) in feite een stadsdeel zoals bij in Amsterdam. Eigenlijk wilde ik naar het postmuseum in de buurt. Helaas was die gesloten vanwege de renovatie maar ik kon bij de filateliewinkel annex postkantoor van de La Poste terecht waar er liefst 2 speciale stempels werden gebruikt. Wat me verbaasde dat er medewerkers buiten op straat rookten als er momenteel geen klanten waren. Als ik in die winkel binnen ging was het ontzettend ovenheet ondanks de ventilator. Zweette als een otter. Bleef er zo kort mogelijk binnen. Nadat ik alles geregeld had kon ik opgelucht naar buiten gaan waar het wat koeler is.

Arrived in that arrondissement (administration zone of the community of Paris) in fact a part of city like as in Amsterdam. I wanted actually go to the post museum but unfortunately it was closed because of the renovation. Lucky I could justly at the philatelic shop annex post office of La Poste. They use preferably two special pictorial postmarks. What wonders me that the staff members are smoking outside on the street when are no customers. When I entered this shop I feel very hot air inside despite a fan. Sweated like as an otter. I stayed short as possible inside. After I have been done the business I was going relieved to outside where it was cooler.

Het was prachtig en zonnig weer buiten en had zin in lekker bier. Hoefde niet zo ver te lopen, maar 100 meter verder op om een gezellige lokale brasserie  15Chantal (café waar er vooral bier geschonken werd ipv. wijn) met een terras te vinden, aan de voet van de Tour Montparnesse wie ik later zou "beklimmen". Ik bestelde waanzinnig halve liter lekker witbier Meteor die liefst 9,50€ kostte. Maar het was waard, want die smaakte zelfs lekkerder dan de Hoegaarden.

It was beautiful and sunny weather outside and I had a sense in yummy beer. It was no need to walk long only 300 yards further to find a cozy local brasserie 15Cantal (a bar where mostly beer is being donated than wine) with terrace a base of the Tour Montparnesse who I to go 'climb' later. I ordered a crazy yummy pint white beer Meteor which costs 9,50€. But it was worth because it tastes yummier than the Hoegaarden.

Naar de 7e arrondissement.

To the 7th arrondissement.

Pakte weer de metro die me naar de 7e arrondissement bracht. In die arrondissement lag de Eiffeltoren maar daarvoor kom ik nog niet voor. Ik kwam voor het Japanse Huis, een cultureel centrum rond het thema over het leven, cultuur, etc. in Japan. Dit jaar werden er veel evenmenten en tentoonstellingen georganiseerd. Ik had een grote interesse voor want ik wilde eens op vakantie naar Japan gaan, dus ideaal als ter voorbereiding. Toen ik op het perron zag ik tot mijn verbazing dat de metrotrein op luchtbanden reed, dat gebeurt nog in een paar metrolijnen. Toen ik er eenmaal in zat voelde ik het zachtjes op en neer bewegen.

Picked up the subway again which brings me to the 7th arrondissement. In that arrondissement you find the Eiffel Tower but I didn't came for this yet. I came for the House of Japan, a culture building around the theme about the life, culture, etc. in Japan. This year are many events and exhibitions organised. I have always been a great interest because I wanted to visit Japan once, so it's ideal as preparation. When I came at the platform, I saw with my surprise that the subway train drove with pneumatic tires, it happens at in some subway lines. When I sat in that train, I feel moving up and down softly.

In de 7e arrondissement.

In the 7th arrondissement.

Ik stapte uit bij het metrostation Bir-Hakeim en zag ineens veel illegale verkopers die mini Eiffeltorentjes verkopen, op weg naar de Eiffeltoren. Ik hoorde nu pas het nieuws dat de Franse politie 20.000 kg aan die spullen in beslag namen. Die spullen werden in China gemaakt voor 20 cent per stuk en die illegale verkopers wilden zo duur mogelijk verkopen aan de onwetende toeristen. Ik negeerde als een echte Parijzenaar, koud en ongevoelig want ze zijn zo gewend dat ze die niet zien wat hun niet bevalt. Niet zo ver vandaan lag het Japanse Huis. Binnen kreeg ik gratis entree als dove. Er werden kalligrafie- en theeceremonie tentoonstellingen gehouden. Was wel interessant. Ik wou door naar de Japanse wijk ten noorden van Parijs gaan. Maar helaas was de metrolijn gesloten vanwege de renovatie, bus nemen was geen optie vanwege de drukte.

I got off at the subway station Bir-Hakeim and I saw suddenly many illegal sellers of mini Eiffel Towers on the way to the Eiffel Tower. I heard just the news that the French cops had token in custody 40,000 lbs of these things. They were made in China for 20 cents per piece and the illegal sellers wanted sell these more expensive to the empty-headed tourists. I ignored like as an real Parisian, cold and insensitive because they are used do it that they do not see what they do not like this. Not so far away laid the House of Japan. Inside I became free ticket because I'm deaf. There were calligraphy and tea ceremony exhibitions held. It was very interesting. I would to go the Japanse district in the north of Paris. Unfortunately was the subway line closed because of a renovation.To get a bus was no option because of the busy traffic.

Naar de 13e arrondissement.

To the 13th arrondissement. 

Ik had mijn plannen gewijzigd en besloot naar de 13e arrondissement om bij Place d'Italie precies te zijn. Gewoon gezellig wijk en minder toeristisch. Dus weer met de metro. Toen ik daar uitstapte zag ik veel leuke lokale brasseriën waar je behalve drinken ook wat kunt eten. Koos voor avondeten bij O'Jules waar er veel locals op af kwamen om te chillen. Had besteld voor een heerlijke soorten vleeswaren en kaas met brood en salade op een plank. Het was heerlijk, mijn maag was goed gevuld voor een avondje uit. Kwam ook in gesprek met een leuke jonge stel. 

I have been changed my plans and decided to the 13th arrondissement, exactly at the Place d'Italie. Easy cozy and less touristic district. I got the subway again. When I got off I saw many nice local brasseries where you can eat, next drinking. I have chosen for evening meal at O'Jules where many locals going there to chill. I ordered for yummy meat and cheese slices with loaf and salad on a shelf. It was yummy indeed. My stomach was full and ready for a night out. I came chatting with nice young couple too.

Terug naar de hotel.

Back to the hotel.

Terug in mijn hotelkamer, bereidde ik me voor een avondje uit om me op te frissen en andere kleren aan te trekken. En natuurlijk een geintje uitgehaald met kunstzinnige selfie.

Back in my hotel room, I prepared myself for night out by fresh up and put on other clothes. And made sure a joke with an artful selfie.

Weer naar de 14e arrondissement.

Ik pakte weer de metro naar Montparnesse-Bienvenue. Wilde graag terug naar die lokale brasserie voor nog een glas heerlijke witbier Meteor. Werd hartelijk verwelkomd en men herkende mij weer. Het werd 's-avonds laat en zag een mooie lichtshow bij de Tour Montparnesse. Ik had al van te voren een ticket besteld met bepaalde tijdstip zodat ik snel door de kassa kon gaan. Na die bier opgedronken te hebben ging ik door naar die toren. Het was gelukkig niet zo druk en ik was al bliksemsnel op de top dankzij de snelste lift van Europa die in 38 seconden tot de 56ste verdieping bracht. Daarna wat trappen lopen tot de observatiedek op de 59ste verdieping.

I picked up the subway again to Montparnesse-Bienvenue. I wanted to back to local brasserie for another yummy pint white beer Meteor. I was token in cordially and men recognized me again. It's evening late and I saw a beautiful light show at the Tour Montparnesse. I have been ordered a ticket with chosen time of day so I can fast by the cash desk. After drinking that beer, I was going to that tower. Lucky it was not busy and I was brought rapidly as lighting on the top thanks the fastest elevator of Europe that within 38 seconds to 56th floor. Then I walked by the stairs to the observation desk on the 59th floor.

Ook had ik van te voren een glas champagne besteld voor 12€. Ik kreeg deze in een doorzichtig plastic glas uitgereikt van de sommelier. Wilde lekker zitten maar de weinige stoelen waren reeds bezet ondanks het feit dat er niet zo veel toeristen waren. Het uitzicht was heel mooi en je zag bijv. de Eiffeltoren waar ik later er heen wilde gaan. De champagne smaakte niet slecht maar jammer van die plastic glas. Wilde me wel eens als een miljonair voelen haha. Toen het wat donkerder werd ging ik weer naar beneden.

I have ordered a glass champagne advance for 12€. I became this in a transparent plastic glass, awarded by a sommelier. Wanted to sit relaxing but the few chairs were occupied despite the fact that are not many tourists. The view was very beautiful and you saw e.g. the Eiffel Tower where I wanted to go there later. The champagne tasted not bad but unfortunately of that plastic glass. Wanted feel like as a millionaire, haha. When it was darker outside I was gone to down.

Pakte de metro weer naar Bir-Hakeim waar ik eerder was geweest. Tot mijn verbazing was het druk met vol toeristen. Had niet verwacht dat er 's-avonds laat er zoveel toeristen nog naar de Eiffeltoren wilden gaan. Ik had het al van tevoren een kaartje gereserveerd naar de top van de Eiffeltoren, met de beschikbare tijdstip. Ook zijn weer die illegale verkopers op de weg naar de Eiffeltoren. Kan ze als een kiespijn missen. Het leek wel een complete volksverhuizing, ook gezinnen met jonge kinderen welke ze allang in bed moesten liggen. Allemaal overal uit hele wereld. Er waren twee veiligheidspoorten waar de bagage gescand en doorzocht werden en je passeerde door de metaaldetectors. 

I picked the subway again to Bir-Hakeim where I was been earlier. To my surprise was in the subway train full with tourists. I had been not expected that are so many tourists wanted to go to the Eiffel Tower. I had been ordered a ticket advance to the top of the Eiffel Tower with available time of day. On the way to the Eiffel Tower were many illegal sellers, too.I can miss this as a toothache. It likes as a complete migration, couples with young children which they a long time already laid in bed. All from whole world. There were two security gates where the luggage is scanned and searched and you passed by metal detectors.

Al kon ik wel sneller door de kassa met mijn vooruitbetaalde ticket maar eenmaal binnen in de pijler voeg je weer bij vele anderen die ter plaatse tickets hadden gekocht. Waanzin ten top! Zelfs het personeel heeft er moeite mee, hoorde ik van het nieuws. Ze waren echt klaar mee en de directrice is er mee ontslagen. Het moest een unieke ervaring zijn voor de voorgeselecteerde toeristen ipv alles proppen in de lift en bij de dekken. De eerste lift tot de 2e etage was al bomvol. Aangekomen bij de 2e etage voeg je weer bij een ellenlange rij die zigzaggend langzaam schuift voor de laatste lift naar de top. 

However I walked faster trough the cash desk with prepaid ticket but once inside in the pillar you joined together with the mass who been bought tickets on the spot. It was complete madness! Even the staff has difficulty with, I heard from the news. The staff has enough of this and the director was fired up. It must be an unique experience for in advance selected tourists instead of cramps all in the elevators and on the decks. The first elevator to the 2nd floor was so crowed. Arrived at the 2nd floor you joined with a long hosed queue again which zigzagged slowly before the second elevator to the top.

Aangekomen bij de top van de Eiffeltoren was het ook razend druk.  Gelukkig kon ik mooie foto's schieten van het mooie uitzicht van Parijs 's-nachts. Maar ik kon niet langer van genieten. Door de drukte naar de top had ik teveel tijd verloren en moest oppassen dat ik de laatste metro naar mijn hotel niet missen. Dus zo snel mogelijk naar beneden, weer worstelend met de massa. Het duurde gelukkig iets korter. Eenmaal op vaste grond zag ik een schitterende lichtshow die elk uur begint. 

Arrived at the top of Eiffel Tower, it was furious busy too. Lucky I have been shot nice photos from the beautiful view of Paris by night. But I could not enjoy longer. By the crowds to the top I had been lost too much time and I must beware that I do not miss the last subway to my hotel. So fast as possible to down, wrested with the mass. It took happy less long time. Once I sat on the solid ground I saw a gorgeous light show that begins at each hour.

Nog even doorzakken.

Op weg naar het metrostation zag ik de ratten weg schieten tussen de toeristen door. Echt groot want hun lijven zijn exclusief hun staarten ca 20 cm lang. Ze leefden kennelijk van het vuil wat de toeristen achter lieten. Het was erg druk in de metro want behalve de toeristen zijn er parijzenaars na een avondje uit naar huis willen. Ik stapte weer uit bij het station Porte d'Ítalie vlakbij het hotel. Er waren nog een paar brasseriën open, want ze sluiten uiterlijk om 2 uur 's-nachts. Ik had nog zin in lekker witbier. Dronk buiten aan de terras, toen begon het hevig te regenen. Dus vlug naar binnen tot de sluitingstijd. Daarna moest ik helaas naar mijn hotel lopen. Gelukkig waren er bomen bij de boulevard richting het hotel, zodat ik niet erg nat werd. Terug in mijn hotelkamer droogde ik mezelf, hing mijn natte kleding op en kroop onder de lakens.

On the way to the subway station I saw the rats running fast away between the tourists. They are really great because of their bodies expect their tails approx 8" long. They lived apparently of the waste what the tourists leaved behind. It was very busy in the subway train because of next the tourists are many Parisians going to home after night out. I got off to at the subway station Porte d'Italie near the hotel. There are some brasseries open yet because of they are appearance closing at 2AM. I felt like it yummy white beer. Drank outside on the terrace, then began it to rain intense. So rapidly to inside till closing time. Then I must walk unfortunately to my hotel. Lucky there were trees at the boulevard direction the hotel, so that I was been not too wet. Back in my hotel I dried myself and hung up my wet clothes. Then I was going under the sheets.
