Vanuit mijn werk naar Dublin

From my work to Dublin

Ik werkte van 6 uur tot 10 uur in de vroege dienst. Na de lunch ging ik met mijn auto direct naar Brussel Airport, zo'n 2 uur rijden van mijn werkplek vandaan. Ik had aanvankelijk het parkeerplek via Ryanair willen reserveren, maar schrok me dood bij het lezen van de recensies dat het daar een rommeltje is. Times parkeerterrein lag afgelegen onder de viaduct van de rondweg R0, bijna 10 km van het luchthaven vandaan en dat de transfer erg onregelmatig was. Als jullie parkeerplek willen resereveren, een tip: doe het via de officiële website van het luchthaven. Het scheelt enkele euro's meer in prijs, maar je hebt de zekerheid van de gereserveerde parkeerplek en regelmatige transfer via de Lijn wat het trouwens kostenloos is op vertoon van de parkeerticket.

I worked from 6 am to 10 am in the early shift. After lunch I immediately took my car to Brussels Airport, about 2 hours' drive from my workplace. I initially wanted to reserve a parking space through Ryanair, but I was shocked to read the reviews that it was a mess there. Times car park was secluded under the viaduct of the R0 ring road, almost 10 km from the airport and that the transfer was very irregular. If you want to reserve a parking space, a tip: do it via the official website of the airport. It saves a few euros more in price, but you have the certainty of the reserved parking space and regular transfer via the Line, which is free of charge on presentation of the parking ticket.

Ik parkeerde bij de Interparking via de officiële website bij de Discount 1 aan de andere kant van het vliegveld waar ik erg blij mee ben. 24/7 uur bewaakt, met WC, bushalte op steenworp afstand. De busrit duurde ca. 10 min. totdat ik het terminal kon uitstappen. Vanwege de staking bij de douane was ik ruim 1 uur eerder gekomen. Toch had ik niks van de staking gemerkt zodat ik tijd over had om uitgebreid te lunchen en lekker bier te drinken. En door de lange pier te wandelen. In afwachting op de vlucht van de Ryanair naar Dublin dronk ik mijn favoriete witbier Hoegaarden op halve liter glas, zo breed dat het nauwelijks paste rond mijn vingers.

I parked at the Interparking via the official website at the Discount 1 on the other side of the airport which I am very happy with. Guarded 24/7, with WC, bus stop just steps away. The bus ride lasted about 10 minutes until I was able to get out of the terminal. Because of the strike at customs I arrived more than 1 hour earlier. Still, I hadn't noticed the strike so I had time to have an extensive lunch and drink some good beer. And by walking the long pier. While waiting for the flight from the Ryanair to Dublin, I drank my favorite Hoegaarden white beer on half a liter of glass, so wide that it barely fit around my fingers.

Eenmaal in het vliegtuig, liep de vlucht vrij voorspoedig toen het de kust van Ierland bereikte. Toen ging het vliegtuig door de storm zigzaggend en dalend zweven en landde scheef op het vliegveld.

Once on the plane, the flight went pretty well when it reached the coast of Ireland. Then the plane went hovering and falling due to the storm and landed crookedly at the airport.

Vrijgekomen van de schrik liep ik door de lange pier richting de busterminal. Er is geen railvervoer richting het centrum van Dublin, maar je kon uit twee mogelijkheden kiezen: goedkopere en langzamere stadsbus of dure en snelle bus. Koos voor de laatste, de Airlink Express te herkennen aan turkooise kleur van de dubbeldekker, gratis WiFi. Die kost €7,= per rit. De normale stadsbus te herkennen aan gele/blauwe dubbeldekkers, reden vooral op normale wegen terwijl de Airlink door de snelwegen en lange tunnel direct naar het centrum van Dublin reden. Mijn hostel gaf me per ongeluk een verkeerde halte op, die niet in de dienstregeling stond. Gelukkig gaf de buschauffeur tijdig aan welke halte ik moet uitstappen, bij St.Stephen's Green. 

Released from the shock, I walked through the long pier towards the bus terminal. There is no rail transport to the center of Dublin, but you could choose from two options: cheaper and slower city bus or expensive and fast bus. Opted for the latter, the Airlink Express recognizable by the turquoise color of the double-decker, free WiFi. It costs € 7 per ride. The normal city bus, recognizable by its yellow / blue double-deckers, drove mainly on normal roads while the Airlink drove through the motorways and long tunnel directly to the center of Dublin. My hostel accidentally gave me a wrong stop that was not in the timetable. Fortunately, the bus driver indicated in time which stop to get off at St.Stephen's Green.

Het was al donker 's-avonds en het weer was stormachtig en het regende pijpestelen. Toen ik uitstapte bij St. Stephen's Green (park), oriënteerde ik via de Google Maps app waar de locatie van de Times Hostel lag. Het was nog geen 1 km lopen daar vandaan. Had mijn paraplu opengeklapt, maar het had geen effect, de wind was gewoon te sterk. Goed dat ik sjaal en muts mee genomen had. Bij de Camden Lower Street aangekomen, kwam ik bij het bruisend uitgaanswijk terecht, vele pubs en restaurants. Ondanks dat weer was het vrij druk. Times Hostel lag aan de zijstraatje Camden Place. It was already dark in the evening and the weather was stormy and it was raining cats and dogs. When I got off at St. Stephen's Green (park), I used the Google Maps app to find out where the location of the Times Hostel was. It was less than a 1 km walk from there. Had my umbrella opened, but it had no effect, the wind was just too strong. Good that I had brought a scarf and hat. Arriving at Camden Lower Street, I ended up in the bustling entertainment district, many pubs and restaurants. Despite that weather it was quite busy. Times Hostel was on Camden Place side street. De jonge en maffe receptionst begroette me in het Frans via de vertaalapp. Moest hard om lachen en vroeg aan hem of hij soms geen Engels kende. Hij verwarde het met de driekleur van Frankrijk en Nederland. Enigzins gerustgesteld toonde hij de gemengde kamer met 10 bedden. Daar in de kamer ontmoette ik de leuke zussen Miriam en Veronica uit Barcelona. Het ijs was al snel gebroken toen ik zei dat ik honger had en dat ik 12 apostelen kan eten (Ierse uitdrukking voor flinke trek). Zij moesten hartelijk om lachen. Eenmaal geinstalleerd, de spullen in de kooi onder de bed opgeborgen ging ik wandelen in de Camden Lower Street. Ik vond typisch Ierse burger restaurant annex pub Bóbó. Ik bestelde snel de nationale bier van Ierland, Guiness. Wow, wat smaakte hij heerlijk in tegenstelling tot de gewone pils. Ware godendrank dat je echt ervan langzaam moet genieten.

The young and wacky receptionst greeted me in French via the translation app. Had to laugh loudly and asked him if he sometimes did not know English. He confused it with the tricolor of France and the Netherlands. A little reassured, he showed the mixed room with 10 beds. There in the room I met the lovely sisters Miriam and Veronica from Barcelona. The ice soon broke when I said that I was hungry and that I could eat 12 apostles (Irish expression for craving). They laughed heartily. Once installed, the things stored in the cage under the bed, I went for a walk on Camden Lower Street. I found typical Irish burger restaurant and pub Bóbó. I quickly ordered the national beer from Ireland, Guinness. Wow, how delicious he tasted as opposed to the regular lager. True divine drink that you really have to enjoy it slowly.

Bestelde biologisch handgemaakte hamburger met hele dikke friet "chips". Het smaakte veel lekkerder dan wat men bij McDonald's bestelt. Bestelde daarna nog eens Guiness bier als slaapmutsje voordat ik naar bed ging. 

Ordered organically handmade hamburger with very thick fries "chips". It tasted much better than what people order at McDonald's. Then ordered another Guiness beer as a nightcap before going to bed.
