Na het ontbijt bij 7eleven supermarkt, nam ik afscheid van de sympathieke en zwijgzame eigenaar van Agosa-Guesthouse. Ik schonk wat Nederlandstalige reisgidsen want hij heeft reisgidsen in allerlei talen, handig voor de buitenlandse gasten. Beetje minder ballst in mijn koffer, want die hing als een molensteen in mijn nek. Het werd tijd om naar het uiterste noorden van het eiland Honshu te reizen. Gisteren kocht ik een kaartje naar Hirosaki met de sneltrein waar ik in Akita moet overstappen. Het kostte 10940 yen, ca 95 euro met reservering voor een reis van 5 uur. Ging naar het station met de stadsbus en ik stapte in een blauwe sneltrein, kenmerkend voor Inaho Express naar Akita.

After breakfast at 7eleven supermarket, I said goodbye to the sympathetic and silent owner of Agosa-Guesthouse. I donated some Dutch-speaking travel guides because he has travel guides in all kinds of languages, handy for foreign guests. Little less weight in my suitcase, because it hung like a millstone on my neck. It was time to travel to the far north of the island of Honshu. Yesterday I bought a ticket to Hirosaki with the express train where I have to transfer in Akita. It cost 10940 yen, about 95 euros with a reservation for a journey of 5 hours. Went to the station with the city bus and I boarded a blue express train, characteristic of Inaho Express to Akita.

De trein reed grotendeels langs de bergachtige kust, prachtige uitzichten in het natuur, afgelegen visserdorpjes en de stranden. (zie video richting Aomori). Afgewisseld door de tunnels.

Het was een ware genot om te zien. De trein stopte in Akita en moest overstappen naar de andere sneltrein. Hoefde maar 30 minuten wachten, dus ik kon mooi versierde Bento lunchbox en fles water kopen voor 1100 yen, iets minder dan 10 euro.

It was a real pleasure to see. The train stopped in Akita and had to transfer to the other express train. Only had to wait 30 minutes, so I could buy nicely decorated Bento lunch box and bottle of water for 1100 yen, just under 10 euros.

Ik stapte in dezelfde type sneltrein maar dan in andere kleuren, kenmerkend voor de Tsugaru Express richting Aomori.

De trein reed eerst langs de mooie bergachtige kust, daarna reed het landwaarts in, wat het iets minder interessant om te zien. Gelukkig duurde de reis niet te lang totdat die in Hirosaki stopte.

The train first ran along the beautiful mountainous coast, then it drove inland, which made it a little less interesting to see. Fortunately, the journey did not last too long until it stopped in Hirosaki.

Ik had van tevoren een kamer via Airbnb geregeld. Ik zou paar dagen overnachten in een boerderij in Kuroishi. De boerin Eriko was zó vriendelijk om me af te halen in Inadatate. Dus ik moet weer overstappen naar de privé spoorwegmaatschappij Hyperdia, die aan andere kant van het station lag. Daar kocht ik een aparte kaartje voor 460 yen voor een reis die 40 minuten duurde.

I had arranged a room in advance through Airbnb. I would spend a few days in a farm in Kuroishi. The farmer's wife Eriko was so kind to pick me up at Inadatate. So I have to switch again to the private railway company Hyperdia, which was on the other side of the station. There I bought a separate ticket for 460 yen for a journey that lasted 40 minutes.

Toen ik naar het perron liep zag ik tot mijn schrik oude stoptrein die ruim 50 jaar oud is. Nix airco, maar ventilators op het plafond. De machnist fungeerde ook als een loketist. Alsof ik terug ging naar de tijd van mijn jeugd. Toen de trein vertrok ging de trein waggelen als een pinguïn. De rails waren echt krom! (zie video boemeltrein). Het spoor was enkelsporig, af en toe moest de trein op een tegenligger wachten. Eenmaal gepasseerd vertrok de trein zonder de sein dat de wissel op de juiste stand gezet is. De trein stormde af op gesloten wissel, maar op het laatste moment ging de wissel open. 

When I walked to the platform I was shocked to see an old slow train that is more than 50 years old. Nix air conditioning, but fans on the ceiling. The engineer also acted as a counter. As if I went back to my childhood. When the train left, the train started wobbling like a penguin. The rails were really crooked! (see video train). The track was single-track, and occasionally the train had to wait for an oncoming train. Once passed, the train left without the signal that the switch was set to the correct position. The train rushed to closed points, but the points opened at the last minute.
 

Het tracé was ook nogal grillig, de reden is dat de trein langs de werkende vulkaan reed. Sommige stopplaatsen lagen ergens aan de overwegen bij de velden. Zo ook in Inadatate waar ik moest uitstappen. Eriko stond al op me te wachten. Ze brachtte me naar haar boerderij vlakbij Kuroishi. Verwachtte een traditionale japanse boerderij, nee, dat was niet het geval. Eriko woonde in een modern huis, dat het binnen beetje traditioneel ingericht maar was voorzien van de moderne snufjes. Buiten lag het ook een grote schuur maar dat echt modern is. Het terrein zag er heel netjes uit. 

The route was also rather erratic, the reason is that the train passed the working volcano. Some stopping places were somewhere in the fields near by the railway crossings. Similarly in Inadatate where I had to get off. Eriko was already waiting for me. She brought me to her farm near Kuroishi. Expected a traditional Japanese farm, no, that was not the case. Eriko lived in a modern house, which was decorated in a traditional way but with modern gadgets. Outside it was also a large barn but that is really modern. The terrain looked very neat.

Haar boerderij lag aan de buitenwijk van Kuroishi met grote winkelketens doorgesneden door zes-baansweg. Toen het 's-avonds werd zag ik grote neonlichten alsof ik me in Amerika bevond! Ik wandelde met verbazing rond, zag mega apotheek, nog groter dan de Kruidvat.

Her farm was on the outskirts of Kuroishi with large chain stores cut by six-lane roads. When it became evening, I saw large neon lights as if I were in America! I walked around with surprise, saw a mega pharmacy, even bigger than the Dutch version.

Wat uiteten betreft was er ook veel keus, ik koos voor de curry tent. Je bestelde echt groot voorgesneden schnitzel met curry zoals men in Duitsland gewend zijn, maar dat de menu uitgebreid is met soep, groot bord koolsalade en rijst. Smaakte heel voortreffelijk. 

When it comes to eating out there was also a lot of choice, I opted for the curry tent. You ordered really large pre-cut schnitzel with curry as they are used to in Germany, but the menu is extensive with soup, large plate of coleslaw and rice. Tasted very excellent.

Na het uiteten, kocht ik wat blikjes bier bij de Mega Drug store en ging langs de McDonald's naar de boerderij. Mij viel op dat er veel kraaienpoep bij McDonals op de grond lagen. Kennelijk hielden de kraaien ervan om de weggegooide restjes hamburgers te eten. Bij de boerderij ging ik lekker buiten ontspannen zitten in de tuin voordat ik naar bed ging.

After eating out, I bought some beer cans at the Mega Drug store and went to the farm along the McDonald's. I noticed that there were a lot of crow poop on the floor at McDonals. Apparently the crows liked eating the leftover hamburgers. At the farm I sat comfortably outside in the garden before I went to bed.
