Wat zaken regelen in Hakodate voor de volgende trip

Doing some business in Hakodate for the next trip

Na het ontbijt bij 7eleven supermarkt moet ik wat dingen voor de volgend reis regelen. Ik pakte de tram naar het station waar ik de fiets kan huren. Helaas kostte het 1200 yen per dag, dus rond 10 euro, maar ik kreeg in ieder geval een gloednieuwe fiets mee. Ik fietste naar de rederij van de veerboot om te proberen een compensatie aan te vragen voor de schade aan de wieltjes van mijn koffer tijdens het aan en van boord komen in het schip tijdens de overtocht tussen Aomori en Hakodate. Ik had foto's gemaakt als bewijs. 

After breakfast at 7eleven supermarket I have to arrange some things for the next trip. I took the tram to the station where I can rent the bike. Unfortunately it cost 1200 yen per day, so around 10 euros, but I got a brand new bike. I cycled to the ferry company to try to apply for compensation for the damage to the wheels of my suitcase when arriving and disembarking in the ship during the crossing between Aomori and Hakodate. I had taken photos as proof.

Het kantoor van de rederij lag 10 km van het hostel vandaan. Ik heb aan de medewerker alles uitgelegd. Tot hun spijt zei hij dat de rederij wettelijk niet aansprakelijk is voor de schade aan de bagage. Ik stelde wat suggesties voor, bijvoorbeeld de lift voor de rolstoelgebruikers open stellen voor de mensen met zware bagage ipv. via de gevaarlijke steile en smalle trap. Of een ander optie, een loopbrug tussen wal en het schip. Ze houden het in beraad zeiden ze. (zal waarschijnlijk niks er mee aan gedaan worden).

The shipping company's office was 10 km from the hostel. I explained everything to the employee. To their regret, he said the shipping company is not legally responsible for damage to the luggage. Or another option, a footbridge between shore and the ship. They keep it under consideration, they said. (probably nothing will be done about it).

Teleurgesteld, maar toch leuk geprobeerd ging ik naar het hoofdpostkantoor voor een mooie rode poststempel. Daar was er ook een filatelie loket. De medewerker is zo aardig geweest om een plattegrond van Hakodate te kopiëren waar in welke postkantoren werden aangegeven die zulke stempels gebruiken. Zo kon ik een stempel rally doen. Ze lagen verspreid door heel Hakodate, in totaal 6 postkantoren. Ten eerste ging ik naar het postkantoor vlakbij het station Hakodate Ekimae. 

Disappointed, but still a nice try, I went to the main post office for a nice red postmark. There was also a philately counter. The employee has been kind enough to copy a map of Hakodate where it was indicated in which post offices that use such stamps. That way I could do a stamp rally. They were scattered throughout Hakodate, a total of 6 post offices. First, I went to the post office near Hakodate Ekimae station.

I went to eat delicious tasty crepe with nice drink with colored fruit gels instead of. coffee.

Om de hoek was er een kantoor van het bekend autoverhuurbedrijf Times Car. Ik werd er goed ontvangen en geholpen. Omdat ik internationaal rijbewijs heb wat het vereist is (niet te verwarren met de roze kaartje!) het voor hun geen punt. Ik moest de verkeersregels eerst bestuderen. Verder moet ik een aparte Japanse verzekering regelen voor de gehuurde auto Nissan Micra voor 3 dagen. Al heb ik een doorlopend reisverzekering, dat dekt alleen schade aan je eigen spullen en auto. Dit alles kostte een uur om alles te regelen, 42.120 yen ca. 350 euro. De auto ligt klaar vanaf de volgende morgen. Blij dat het alles rond is, ging ik verder met de stempel rally. 

Around the corner there was an office of the well-known car rental company Times Car. I was well received and helped. Because I have an international driver's license what it requires (not to be confused with the pink card!) It is no point for them. I had to study the traffic rules first. I also have to arrange a separate Japanese insurance for the rented car Nissan Micra for 3 days. Although I have a comprehensive travel insurance policy, it only covers damage to your own belongings and car. All this took an hour to arrange everything, 42,120 yen and around 350 euros. The car is ready from the following morning. Glad it was all over, I went on with the stamp rally.

Ik was net op tijd voor de sluitingstijd van het laatste postkantoor bovenop de baai van Hakodate.

I was just in time for the closing time of the last post office on top of Hakodate Bay.

Mijn stempel rally zat er eindelijk op, kon me eindelijk gaan ontspannen.

My stamp rally was finally over, I could finally relax.

Ik daalde af naar de baai waar de beroemde bierhal lag. Aangekomen bestelde ik grote pul plaatselijk ambachtelijk gebrouwen bier en een bord met zelfgemaakte grove worsten, wat het me aan de oktoberfest deed denken. Helemaal niet slecht, en de bier smaakte precies zoals Duits bier, iets meer bitter dan de gewone Hollandse pils. Alleen de prijs was nogal aan de hoge kant, nl. 1895 yen, ca. 17 euro.

I descended to the bay where the famous beer hall lay. When I arrived, I ordered a large mug of locally brewed beer and a plate with home-made coarse sausages, which reminded me of the Oktoberfest. Not bad at all, and the beer tasted exactly like German beer, slightly more bitter than the regular Dutch lager. Only the price was quite on the high side, namely 1895 yen, around 17 euros.

Moest daarna de huurfiets weer inleveren, dat betekent 5 km terug fietsen en daarna de tram nemen naar het hostel. Toen ik uitstapte bij de tram ging ik boodschappen doen bij de drugstore. Die was ook uitgebreid met voedsel en drank, zo kocht ik opwarmpakket pittige ramen, blikjes bier en ontbijt voor de volgende morgen. Terug in het hostel las ik de opwarm instructies in het Japans, gelukkig was het aantal Watt en de tijd aangegeven, maar de volgorde daarvan is een ander verhaal. Eindelijk was het me gelukt om de ramen klaar te maken.

Had to return the rental bike, that means cycling back 5 km and then taking the tram to the hostel. When I got off the tram, I went shopping at the drug store. It was also expanded with food and drink, so I bought a warm package of spicy ramen, cans of beer and breakfast for the following morning. Back at the hostel I read the warming-up instructions in Japanese, luckily the number of Watts and the time was indicated, but the order of those is a different story. I finally managed to prepare the ramen.

Ik dacht dat het gewoon pittig was maar zó extreem pittig had ik niet verwacht. Mijn lippen en tong brandden als of er een steekvlam uit mijn mond kwam. Gelukkig bluste de soep, die meegeleverd was in de mok die brand! Daarna nog nablussen met blikjes bier voordat ik naar bed ging.

I thought it was just spicy but I did not expect that extremely spicy. My lips and tongue burned as if a flash fire came out of my mouth. Fortunately, the soup that was included in the mug extinguished that fire! After that I had to run off with cans of beer before I went to bed.
